Content – Utah 2nd Grade Core Standard 3, Objective 4, indicator C – Locate continents and oceans on a map or globe (i.e., North America, Antarctica, Australia, Africa, Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean).

Pedagogy – Students will be using self discovery as they look at the different continents and facts on GoogleEarth. They will also be looking of answers to questions we pose to them.

The Tech Savvy Teacher Continued...

What is the content you’ll be using in your lesson?

Utah 3rd Grade  Science Core Standard 1 – Students will understand that the shape of the Earth and the moon are spherical and that Earth rotates on its axis to produce the appearance of the sun and moon moving through the sky.  Objective 1 – Describe the appearance of Earth and the moon. Indicators a. Describe the shape of Earth and the moon as spherical.  And indicator c. And list the differences in the physical appearance of Earth and the moon as

What is the pedagogy you’ll be using and why is it a good fit with the content?

We will be trying to help students use self discovery to learn about the earth’s shape and appearance as well as the moon and the sun.  We will let them think of their own  questions and then find their own answers.

What is the technology you’ll be using and why is it a good fit with the content and pedagogy?

Students will be using Google Sky, Stellarium and Inspiration 8 to discover answers to their questions and record what they have learned.  They can then use Inspiration 8 to present what they have learned to other students in the class.

Storyboard Content

What is the content you’ll be using in your lesson?

I will be making a storyboard using a poem.  The poem I will be using the poem, “I Love Squishy Things,” by Dave Rudolf from his book “Please Don’t Tease the Dragon!”  Hopefully this will get the children excited about poetry and alliteration or word sounds.  I will be using music from Freeplaymusic.com and pictures that I get off of google images.

What is the pedagogy you’ll be using and why is it a good fit with the content?

I will be using the Utah 2nd grade Core, Standard 4– Phonics and Spelling – Students use phonics and other strategies to decode and spell unfamiliar words while reading and writing.  Objective 2 – Use knowledge of structural analysis to decode words, Indicator b. Identify sound patterns and apply knowledge to decode3 words (e.g., blends, digraphs, vowel patterns, r-controlled vowels).  I will use the poem above to help point out different word combinations and spellings that are found in the poem.  There is a lot of alliteration.

What is the technology you’ll be using and why is it a good fit with the content and pedagogy?

I will be using pictures from google images online, music from freeplaymusic.com, and a microphone to record the poem.  I will use Photostory to put it all together.
